After watching Lebron James try desperately to hide in the 4th quarter again, I got to wondering: are any other superstar athletes less clutch than Lebron? What about the nfl -- who gets praise but always disappears when it matters most?
For the nfl it has to be between Phillip Rivers, Tony Romo, and Carson Palmer.
Sport wide...my knowledge is really limited to the nfl, but it's tough coming up with someone other than Lebron, when you look at the gap between superstardom and clutchness.

Probably Peyton Manning. He has his ring, but possibly the worst post-season performance (in total) of a SB winning QB ever.
The two are pretty comparable. At various times, unarguably the best in their league. Both have their share of clutch performances - in the regular season. Both have underperformed at critical times in the playoffs when their team needed them most.

Man, I thought the exact opposite...James shat away that huge lead with "I wanna be the guy" moments. I didn't think he was hiding. I think he desperately wanted too be & damn near cost Wades team the game.
NFL? I'd say Jim Kelly.
ETA..espn wont sow you what lead too that late surge by the Thunder. King James had everything to do with that.

I'm not a huge LeBron fan, but I don't get the LeBron hate. He's just a different type of star.

The Lebron hate is because he will dominate for 3 quarters, but if it's close at the end, you'd better hope to god someone else steps up. Particularly in playoff games or the finals.

I agree with Peyton Manning being one of the least clutch NFL stars ever.
Something like Manning's offense averaged 14 points a game in 10 playoff defeats, yet the Manning apologists will swear it is the defense's fault. Manning was actually shut out by the New York Jets in one playoff game. I guess that was the defense's fault too, they should have scored defensive TDs to win the game. By comparison, in Ben's 4 playoff defeats the offense averaged 26 points a game.
Manning's Super Bowl winning post season run was pathetic. He threw 3 TDs and 8 INTs. He tried real hard to choke but the defense and running game saved his ass and facing the Chicago Bears led by Rex Grossman was a boon. Say what you want about what teams Ben faced in the Super Bowl, but two of the 3 QBs will be in the Hall of Fame one day (Rodgers and Warner) and Hasselbeck was a 3 time Pro Bowler. Manning faced the mighty Rex Grossman. It was a perfect storm of events that led to Manning getting his Super Bowl win. He did very little to make it happen. They won it that year in spite of him, not because of his sterling play in the post-season.
