Series evened up, but the Pirates can actually take the season series with this win.

http://thisisgettingold.net/2012/06/24/ ... s-game-71/

Pirates are currently tied for the last Wildcard spot and are just one game out of the division lead. They are also six games above .500. The high last season was seven games.

Can't be very optimistic about this game at all. About the only positive is that the Bucs should do better the second time against Verlander this year. We should get more than just a weak single up the middle in the 9th by JHay to avoid a no-hitter.

I'll go out on a limb and say that Verlander doesn't get the complete game victory.

Detroit 5-1.

geez, that lineup does not look very formidable....

When will we add a bat or 2, Mr. Huntington?

I think the Buccos should go with a six man rotation.

http://thisisgettingold.net/2012/06/24/ ... tens-back/

It will help arms from being worn down and give guys like Bedard and Burnett a bit of a break.

Not permanently though, just a few weeks.

I agree it will take a special outing from KC to win this game.

The next 8 games for the Buccos will tell alot about this team.

Verlander and then 4 on the road against the Phils...3 on the road against the Cards.

If we go 4-4, it's a win.

In the past 4-4 would be a win...Its no longer the past

6-2 I would call a win
5-3 would be decent
4-4 is a must

A few arms will not be available from the bullpen today. Jason Grilli and Jared Hughes, Hurdle said are definitively down. Lefty Tony Watson could be situational, leaving Doug Slaten as the possible lone left-hander. Only Joel Hanrahan and Hughes have pitched on back-to-back days this season, so Hurdle said that Watson was still in conversation.

“We’re deciding about Watty, but Grilli and Hughes is unavailable today,” Hurdle said.

Quote:
What we do know is that Jeff Karstens will not be making a rehab start today. The right-hander is in Pittsburgh, but was unavailable to speak to media today. Pirates skipper Clint Hurdle yanked him from his scheduled rehab assignment and said that he will make a start on the roadtrip. When is still in question. Could it be today? Although Kevin Correia is in the lineup, there have been rumors that the club is pushing to trade him. Could Karstens start tomorrow in Philly and bump the rest of the rotation a day? Hurdle said he will provide more information after the game and tomorrow on how they plan on shuffling the starting rotation.

“He’s not going to Indy,” Hurdle said. “He’s here. We’re going to have him make a start on this road trip. We’ll let you know accordingly, but we are going to have him travel with us and he is going to make a start on the road trip.”
