Great pick -
Not how they wanted the draft to break for them, as there are so many other needs --- But with Appel on the board at number 8, they had to take him
Let's hope he's what the MLB network guys say he is -- "the next Verlander" -- one can say that type of shit on draft day

Pirates did exactly what the Steelers would have done -- chosen the best talent available when he dropped to them, and didn't expect it.
I like the Stanford connection too -- DeCastro and Appel probably know each other already, or they will soon
