Twins give up on sputtering starter Marquis
Quote:
Right-hander Jason Marquis was removed from the roster on Tuesday, ending his stint with the Twins after just seven starts. General manager Terry Ryan said he is trying to trade Marquis, but he is unlikely to be sent to Triple-A Rochester, an assignment the 13-year veteran has the right to refuse. If no deal is reached in 10 days, Marquis would be released. The Twins signed him for $3 million this season.
Not that the Pirates have anybody to replace Nate McLouth, but I am really hoping that they are considering what the Twins have done with Marquis. This is three years in a row that McLouth has shown that he can no longer hit - anything! 2010 = .190, 2011 = .228, and so far in 2012 =.143 - Its sad and shocking but true - three years is a long time. If only the Pirates gave Bautista more time.
By the way - In 2006, a 25 year old Bautista hit .235 with 16 HR's and 50 RBI's in 117 games for the Bucs. In 2007 at 26 years old, he hit .254 with 15 HR's, 36 doubles, and 63 RBI's, with 68 walks in 142 games. Thats Lou Gehrig on this team. They got rid of him the next year.
