My favorite Steve Blass story ever....

Because his group started on the back nine at Greensburg, Blass's first ace came at the 154-yard 15th hole, when he used an 8-iron. The second came at the 175-yard seventh hole when he knocked a 7-iron into the cup. Each hole carried a prize for a hole-in-one so Blass walked away with a computer and a $500 gift credit card.

"I've never even used a computer," Blass said. "And it cost me $400 in the bar."

I too am a fan of Blass...very nice, down to earth guy Speaking of buying drinks. My dad was a foreman and every Friday would buy a round of drinks for his crew then go home. So one Friday at dinner, my dad, who knows nothing about professional sports, asked me if I ever heard of a guy named Jim Rooker. After explaining he was Pirates' pitcher and Pirates' broadcaster my dad said he bought my dad a drink after seeing him buy the round for his crew. My dad said Rooker just told him he was speaking at local sports banquet of some sort but never mentioned his Pirates background. Maybe he just figured my dad knew who he was by name or was just a nice guy not looking for recognition. The world needs more good, grounded dudes like Blass and Rooker.
