This is pretty damn funny. Hard to believe a professional could mess up an easy one like this.

MLB umpires have a pretty plum job. The average salary is about $150K and they also get a $35K expense account for travel, meal, and accommodations during the season. So it is pretty annoying to see a guy botch a call that bad at this level.

Awful. If I'm that umpire, I resign in disgrace today. Fuck's sake, man, are you really that fucking blind?

How about the fucking dolt Jim Joyce who blew the call on Armando Galarraga's perfect game two years ago? Then we get Jerry Meals blowing the call at home on the Bucs last year in Atlanta.

I know these guys aren't perfect, but blatant bush-league calls like that scream out for some type of reform.

Jim Joyce made the wrong call on Galarraga's perfect game but that was a fairly close play. If it wasn't a perfect game no one would have been that bent over it. Even the best umps are going to get a few close plays wrong during the course of a year and I think Jim Joyce is actually a pretty good ump. The Jerry Meal's call was pretty bad but at least that was a tag play and the guy was 7 hours into a 19 inning game. It is tough to put that gear on and stay mentally sharp for that long. There is just no excuse for this call by Tim Welke.

Reposted the video because the one originally posted in this thread has been pulled.

Horrible, horrible call.

No excuse for that...Welke was looking right at the play. I'm pretty sure he was in the correct position too.

Horrible.
