It's not time to panic. Bad starts happen. I agree - I guess a lot of these guys were thinking the Pirates were going to make the playoffs this year - LOL! In 2010, they won 57 games. In 2011, they won 72 games. It was Hurdle's first season! In 2012, the goal is 82 but who knows if they are going to win that - I dont think they will. At the same time, they are totally rebuilding their minor league rosters which is a huge huge undertaking - think about all of the shitty drafts these guys have had over the past 10 years. Then add in the fact that this is the worst run sport in sports history..... I think they are on the right path - I believe in NH. This is not an easy undertaking by any means.

One other thing.....a turn around for the Pirates is going to take some good luck....this organization has nothing but bad luck - this team is due some good luck.....I was just watching Bryce Harper highlights - the guy is 19 years old - he looks better then anyone we have on our team right now!!!
We missed that guy by one pick! THAT is bad luck (I doubt he would be playing in Pittsburgh with our philosophy but thats another story).
In 2009 - we missed Strasburg by 3 picks - two no miss prospects - once in a lifetime type of picks - we missed them both barely - swing and a miss.
This team needs some breaks.

Suwannee, I know, we missed on some blue chippers when we didn't do badly enough to get the first pick, and then when we have had the first pick we were either cheap (Wieters), or unlucky in that there wasn't a clear-cut top prospect. Sucks, but it is what it is.
I agree with Sham. It was one game, shrug it off and come out and kick ass today.
Part of how well this team will do this year will be how well they respond to games like these.
Suwannee...you raise a great point about the win totals and how they have improved. We'll see what happens. I think last year's first half gave a lot of folks, myself included, a lot of hope for this season. Despite protests to the contrary, a .500 season is still a goal. Has to be. Hasn't been done in 19, so doing that will be a step along the way, not the ultimate goal, but you have to have something to shoot for that is realistic and do-able. It's both, I believe.

Good post MJ - I know I bitch a lot about Weiters but I cant blame that on NH as that wasnt him. I believe Pedro was his first in 2008 draft. In that draft he passed on Hosmer but he was a highschool kid and I am sure NH thought Pedro would develop more quickly. NH has room to improve for sure - his Bay, Sanchez and Wilson trades have all sucked pretty badly although Tim Alderson just got promoted to AAA which was great. Allie cant throw strikes - he has been demoted - its all a fucking crap shoot - its just that the Pirates have had to clean up a ton of crap - they need a break with some of these kids. Also - just read recently where Josh Bell is already hurt - meniscus surgery - will not return until late in the season.

How did the Jack Wilson trade suck?
Cedeno was arguably better than Wilson and the Pirates got prospects back....

McCutchen pulled from the game in the bottom of the 4th. No explanation yet.
Bedard after the rough 1st inning, has settled down. 9 Ks through 4!
