The deal begins with the 2012-13 season and runs through the 2017-18 campaign, and has an average annual value of $5 million.

Woohoo!

First, WOOT!

But the timing of this is a little fishy. Shero's up to something, I think.

Then again, even with this deal they have $60 mil committed to the cap next year, but the only FA's now will be Sullivan, Asham, Park and Beej. Niskanen will be the only RFA. They'd have 4-5 mil in cap space at the current cap to re-sign/replace those guys, which wouldn't be hard.

Big question now is, can they get Staal done in two years with Neal's contract?

Way to be on the ball, dman.

Just got word about this myself. Great, great news.

Can we fire Martin now?

Staal will be re-signed 5-6 months from now. Instead of the seeing what UFA's are out there, when July 1st rolls around Shero's top priorities will be re-signing Crosby and Staal.
