I basically blow off steam about what appears, to me at least, to be the abandonment of the youth movement.

Couldn't agree more.

It smacks of a desperate team that doesn't know what the fuck they are doing. Plan anyone?

They should either kept Maholm (was do-able) or just face the fact that they are going to be bringing up and cultivating some of their younger arms. Since they didn't get this guy, maybe that's where they'll end up, but you have to wonder what the fuck is going on in the braintrust of the guys who have steered this team to nearly 400 losses in 4 seasons.

I am with you - I hate it
just like correja IMO and the signings this year and last are frighteningly like the last 15 years
it really smacks of spending some money just to keep selig and the union from calling you out

I don't think these types of free agent signings hurt the youth movement. 1 and 2 year deals for journeymen players won't block a deserving youngster for very long. I do agree that it would be wiser to use all that cash on one impact free agent than spreading it out amongst a bunch of guys that aren't much better than replacement and won't be here if/when the Bucs turn it around.

This. All day long. At some point, you have to be bold. You can't keep being afraid of spending on the wrong player. At some point, pull a trigger and roll with it. We have a promising (and some have shown they are for real) core of players. I'd include Elvis in that, so there are 5 now--provided El Toro comes back around. That's pretty good for a young team. Pitching is, as usual, a concern.
