...that I have ever witnessed.
And yes- I stayed up and watched them all.
The concurrent drama of Sox-Orioles and Yankees-Rays made it even better (Longoria, during his GW-HR AB, actually having to step out of the batter's box because of the crowd's cheering the news of the Red Sox' loss, was classic!)
Neal Huntington needs to go spend the winter with Andrew Friedman so he can learn the right way to build a small-budget team with no fanbase.
Congrats Rays. And the Phillies did themselves no favors beating the Braves and letting the Cardinals into the dance. Three Cards' pitchers have career ERAs in the 2s or less against the Phillies, and the team has handled Halladay, Lee, and Hamels in the past.
Phillies' fans better not hope that a team-record 102 wins, and Charlie Manuel suprassing Gene Mauch as all-time winnigest Phillies manager aren't their only highlights of the season.

Agreed Jeems. To quote myself from the game thread last night: AWESOME!!! Only time I'd ever root for the F'n Orioles --- just put a dagger right through Baahhston! Plus --- Tampa beat the Yanks and Philly sent the Braves home for the winter season!!! Incredible! Quote: This one might hurt as bad as all those postseason losses in the 1990s and early 2000s.
The Braves were 10 1/2 games ahead of St. Louis before play on Aug. 26. They were still up by 8 1/2 games on the morning of Sept. 6. Instead of popping champagne for a second straight trip to the playoffs, they became the first team in major league history to blow a lead of at least eight games for a playoff spot in September.
They had some company when Boston did the same in the AL, but that was of little consolation in Atlanta.
The Braves had this one. And they blew it, losing five straight to end the regular season and going 9-18 in the final month.
http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=310928115 Only the Cards made it from my "despised teams" list (well, besides the Fuckin' Brewers, but that goes without sayin') --- outstanding finish. Maybe some enjoyable playoffs for a change this October?

Perfect night. I can enjoy the rest of baseball now that those three are gone.
Ideally Detroit would win, but, I doubt it.

Two years in a row (three if you count the 2009 World Series)- the book is out on the Phillies now.
Throw their big hitters junk out of the strike zone...they can't resist. They cannot or will not be patient and play small ball.
Even Halladay can't win a game when his team doesn't score.

It's a common occurance. So you're saying you're one of the three Philadelphia fans that expected them to lose?

I was perturbed they didnt keep Werth as he was one of the cogs in the offense. Howard's horrible numbers and lack of hitting and them getting older were being shoved under the rug. I really got worried when they lost 10 straight in September after they clinched. Way to go into the playoffs on a not so sharp note. Im not surprised one bit.
