Who will be with us, who will be not?

Gone...
Ludwick, Lee, Maholm, Ohlendorf, Veras, XPaul, Snyder, Cedeno, maybe a few others.
Not that long ago I would have had Doumit on that list, now I'm not so sure.

I truly hope Lee is signed. The rest, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

I'm gonna wager a guess that this is the lineup we see, position-wise....

LF: Alex Presley
CF: Andrew McCutchen
RF: Jose Tabata

3B: Pedro Alvarez
SS: Ronny Cedeno
2B: Neil Walker
1B: ???

C: Chris Snyder

Rotation:

Kevin Correia
Charlie Morton
James McDonald
Jeff Karstens
Brad Lincoln

If they don't make at least an effort to sign Lee to a short-term deal, then once again I am done with the Pirates until they prove they want to build a winner.

There is no answer to the first base position in the organization right now- let Lee be the bridge until there is.

I won't be done with them if they don't sign Lee, or at least make an attempt to do so. The Bucs as an organization have done a lot of incredibly stupid things over the past 19 years, so that isn't a deal breaker for me, not by a long shot.

But I'm with you in terms of wanting them to make that offer, get to talking and find out what he might want, and what we can realistically afford. I can't believe he'd want more than we gave fucking Overbay, and Lee is better. I'm going to suggest we also look at Ludwick, and see what he might want to stay. Let's face it, both of these guys are better than the OF and 1B players we signed last off-season. Ludwick and Lee would provide a nice vet presence, to go along with some wood.

I think 43 is probably right about the starting lineup. Though...I'm open to suggestions about catcher. Do we let either Snyder or Doumit go, or both, or neither? Also 3B is not a lock down yet. Pedro will probably be given the start, but will he keep it? The OF is speedy with minimal power, so we absolutely have to have a power bat at 1B, and Lee would fill that bill nicely if we choose to try to keep him. I'd love to see someone unseat Cedeno, but d'Arnaud is probably not that guy...nor anyone else I'm aware of who would be ready. The rotation is probably right on as well, though I'd love to have a lefty, but Maholm is gone, I believe. Locke didn't really step up that well, yet, either.

I didn't say they have to sign him...I said they have to show me they're willing to make the attempt.

Pirates have no one in their lineup- now or in the future- even remotely like Lee.

Even though he's 36...the effort at least has to be made.

I already agreed with needing to be an attempt:

I think they'll make an attempt, they won't be successful. As you suggest, at 36, Lee can still play. Someone will pay him, it won't be the Pirates.
