Man the Big East is gonna be one of the bottom of the barrel conferences like the Sun Belt. I'd love to see Pitt in the ACC. Syracuse not so much. If I was in receipt of their app i'd just roll my eyes and put it through the shredder without acknowledging it.

ACC is building the best basketball conference while improving, if only slightly, their football side. Don't be surprised if UCONN and a team like Rutgers make the move. Sounds like WVU is heading to the SEC too. If so the Big East is done, completely.

The Big East always seemed awkward to me, what with the larger number of basketball schools that didn't play major football. Seems like the Big East or something like it would remain with a reduced number of schools playing non-FBS football sports (maybe like the Atlantic 10, with lower tier football being played). Not sure what this does to Uconn as they've obviously been the strength of the conference from the basketball side but also play FBS football. Maybe another ACC add? And what about Notre Dame? Seems to me they have to make a decision soon and quit straddling the Conference/Independent line.

I hoped the addition of TCU would help keep the conference together. At this point, I don't see how UConn and Rutgers or WVU don't jump ship real soon too. Figure the Big 10 should take the opportunity to pounce as well. Big East is done as a major conference. Sad day.

Dixon's teams have matched up well v Duke & Maryland, I can see Pitt competing in ACC provided Dixon has legit point guards. They could make a splash if Steven Adams and DeMatha's James Robinson show up for 2012.

So what will end up happening when the rest of these teams jump is you end up with two divisions in the ACC: The Big East Division and the Atlantic Coast Division.

Big East could still have a solid basketball-only core of G'town, St. John's, Villanova, Seton Hall, Marquette, DePaul, Providence, and maybe even let Notre Dame keep its football exemption. Heck, with that lineup, they could probably find a few other basketball schools to grow back out as a hoops-only conference.
But as a football conference, yeah, they're screwed.
And if I'm the ACC, I'm thinking Rutgers and UConn make a lot of sense. Pitt and Syracuse fill out the western halves of NY and PA, but Rutgers and UConn would add the NY/NJ corridor. Rutgers doesn't add anything special other than the TV market and a foothold in NY/NJ, but UConn really makes it an even more interesting basketball conference, and the UConn football program seems to have its legs under it by now.
