My sister was a full ride athletic scholar to NCAA school in Big 12.

Based on what she told me, although she got an education, the Big 12 is no better.

First off, in her particular sport, she was the only American scholarship student (there were NO non-scholarship students - not atypical in women's sports because football creates massive Title IX issues), and the only one who actually had 4 years of eligibility coming into the program. So there's that whole- what does the free lunch go for in a societal sense? Question...

Routine to have tutors complete work for you during the season, for which the Athletic Department sprung the dollars to pay them. If the tutors refused to complete work, that department was blackballed from receiving workload from scholarship athletes in any sport. So, no math majors, period.

Then there's the NCAA permitted things they can still do- $1100 living expense stipend for athletes off-campus for example.

Many of the foreign athletes were basically brought in for 1-2 years of top-shelf service, and effectively paid to hang out for 4 years on campus. Some of them got an education... Many of them were returning to Europe where they had other free educational opportunities to pursue and they basically took a 2-year vacation on the U's dime. No need to bother with grades really at all, just pass and you remain there as a student. No need to graduate either. Student VISA means Immigration is off your back- so stay out of jail and let's party.

Some people get it and some do not. what they are doing to most of the basketball players is a travesty (for the players, not for the NCAA or NBA).

I think the programs that DON'T graduate a lot of seniors actually have more integrity than those who do. I prefer standards to do gooderism.

Yeah, it's kind of nice having a college team that wears the Black & Gold as well.

I'm excited to see what Mizzou's offense can do this year. Moe and DGB on the outside should be deadly, provided James Franklin recovers from his shoulder injury. I just have no faith in our defense, especially our secondary.

On a sour note, there are two weekends I have to be out of town this fall: September 8th and October 13th, aka Georgia weekend and Alabama weekend. I am seriously debating dropping out of a friend's wedding to stay in town for the Bama game.
