If DeCastro was still on the board around 15-16, I wouldn't be opposed at all to see the Steelers do a Polamalu-like trade up for him (our 1, 3, and a 6). If the Steelers were evaluating him as a Pro Bowl guard, sure, why not? Put him beside Pouncey for 10 years and turn our IOL play from a weakness into a strength in the second half our our franchise QB's career.
I understand the argument about the value of guard and the depth of the position in this draft, but a great player is a great player regardless of positional depth in a draft or some value argument. If DeCastro ends up being a Pouncey-like talent at either LG or RG (and I personally believe he has that ability), that's a great trade because you're more likely to have drafted a Kraig Urbik or a Keenan Lewis with that extra top 100 pick you gave up for a Pro Bowler than you are to have found another Mike Wallace.

PLATINUM STAR! explosiveness measurables: kei basically. 35.5" vertical, and managed 22 reps despite those ridiculous arms. i red flag any pass rusher that can't put up at least 35, but there were only a few this year that could manage even that. tape: uses his arms well to keep off blockers; actually manages to stand up against double teams pretty well. age: not a true junior, but would be a young senior. leaves plenty of room/time for growth and upside. 'career trajectory': basically, 1.5 sacks at age 19, 4.0 at age 20, pace for 8.5 at age 21. project to age 22? 23? 24? 25? yeah. basically, come for the arms, stay because he's solid to strong everywhere else on your checklist. but as colbert describes most 1st rounders this year, it's more an effort in projection than it is in rating him based on what's already been shown on tape.

(1) Matt Kalil, OT, USC. One of the few elite prospects in this class. Just can't pass it up.

Great ball skills, led all CBs in this class in passes defended over the last year, and last two years, physical run defender with a solid NFL build, two time all conference, fastest player at the combine and arguably the most athletic.
(3) Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse. I like the current depth chart at DE, but crazy BPA opportunity on a guy that fits our system. Suffice to say this guy won't be available for the Vikes at this point in the draft in reality.
(4a) AJ Jenkins, WR, Illinois. There was a lot of good value at WR on the board at this point; I don't like the WRs at the top of this class, but I love the depth through the middle. Teams in need of help at WR would do well to show some patience before going into shopping spree mode this year if the draft falls anything like it did for us.
(4b) Ryan Broyles, WR, Oklahoma. See 4a.
(4c) Justin Bethel, S, Presbyterian. Plenty of people around here can talk up Bethel if you are interested. Pretty decent safety prospect to me.
(5) Ronnie Hillman, RB, San Diego St.
(6) Donald Stephenson, OT, Oklahoma. Workout warrior? Led all Olinemen at the combine in vertical by like 5 inches....at 314 pounds. Nice long arms as well.
(7a) Chandler Harnish, QB, NIU. Anyone suggest any late round QBs that would make sense to take a flyer on as guys with 'franchise QB' upside? What I saw available after the top 6 or so was (A) guys with crap arms (B) short dudes (C) guys who were bad at playing QB in college.
(7b) Frank Alexander, DE, Oklahoma. apparently mayock and i aren't that far apart in our evaluations:/

When was the last time the Steelers moved up in the draft to acquire a player who is pretty much assured of making zero "splash plays" throughout their career? Quote: Think about the difference Alan Faneca and Steve Hutchison made for their offenses over a 10 year span. I see Decastro making that kind of impact. A great guard can make a good RB very productive and help keep the QB clean. Where was Alan Faneca drafted? Did the Steelers trade up for him? Alan Faneca was drafted at #26, and the Steelers didn't trade up for him. Hutchinson was drafted at #17 with Seattle's 2nd pick. If DeCastro is there at 1.24- the Steelers will almost certainly take him. I just think the chance of that event happening is nil, and I think the chance of the steelers moving up more than 1-4 slots to get him is nil. There are too many needs this year.

Fair enough. If the Steelers, given what we know about their RB situation, drafted Wilson in the 2nd with James available, I have to trust James' character issues were just insurmountable... Wilson is a potential feature back, so that's good info to know.
