With interest in Pead and James I think it is obvious what kind of back they are looking for.

From the pro day Gil Brandt blog. Quote: Luke Nix draws most attention at Pitt pro day. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive line coach Sean Kugler worked out the players. http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/04/12/luke-ni ... s-pro-day/ Buddy Jackson, CB (6 1/8, 187) — Jackson ran the 40 in 4.37 and 4.40 seconds (including a 1.50 10-yard split, which is pretty good), had a 40-inch vertical jump and 11-foot-8 broad jump, a 4.10-second short shuttle, 7.11-second three-cone, and performed 15 strength lifts of 225 pounds. Jackson was not at the combine. He did not play much at Pittsburgh, but has displayed outstanding speed and athletic ability. Anything to this? Guess we'll see in 2 weeks. Also, Jackson intrigues me. Very raw but has outstanding athleticism and speed. FS? Slot CB?

Could have been personal issues with the coaches ala Willie Parker or something else. Steelers need to really do their homework if they are going to give this guy a hard look. I think he's more likely a UDFA.

My thoughts exactly on DB Jackson stillenigma. Sign him as a UDFA and PS him for a year see how well he progresses. OG Nix, I'm sure gets his name called here in a couple weeks.
What I was curious about was that Kugler and Tomlin ran the work outs. Maybe I'm reading into it too much.

Forgetting what we know for the moment, team needs and such. Looking strictly at that list to date. You could deduce;
LB and O-line are the biggest need. But to date, when you break it down
2 OT 3 ILB (2 if you discount J. Harris as 7th/UDFA) 2 RB 2 OG 3 OLB (4 if you count Hightower and/or Upshaw) 2 DE (interesting, 2 DE no NT yet) 2 TE
Now, knowing what we know and the names they're looking at;
They want to land a combination of top OT & top ILB. (Gee, that becomes a no brainer with an extra 1st rounder)
They definitely are looking to land a guard and tackle.
They're either not sold on Worilds or you can just never get enough OLBs. This is where Hightower has added value. He gives them everything Timmons doesn't, and could probably actually play OLB. (where Timmons is valiant but overmatched)
They're definitely kicking the tires on RBs and surprisingly DEs at value, but guys that would most definitely make the roster.
I know, no brainer stuff, but I thought it kinda outlined a train of thought. Possibly a small trade down.
