This might warrant some attention. Pat Kirwan knows many of the brass in NE and is pretty good friends with Belicheat. He has connections and has been saying repeatedly that the Steelers should get ready for life without Wallace.

If the Pats do steal away Wallace, I do not see the Steelers drafting a WR with any of their first 3 picks.
1A Hightower 1B Zeitler 2 Ta'amu
Or a potential longshot pick at 1B could be Coby Fleener.
1A Hightower 1B Fleener 2 Osemele 3 Chapman or Mike Martin

Don't forget that no matter what happens, the Steelers have the final say over where Mike Wallace plays this year. They have the option to match whatever contract that another team offers him. And when is the last time the Patriots paid an outside free agent $9+ million a year? Are they really willing to spend almost $20 million and a 1st round pick on two receivers? Is Belichick willing to swallow his pride and admit he made a mistake 3 years ago by drafting Brandon Tate over Mike Wallace?

I'll just say this they didn't shave $47M in salary this year out of shear boredom I'm not saying he's going anywhere. I'm just saying that the lack of any sure-fire wideouts in this draft isn't going to help Colbert and company out in trying to keep him. Add to that the fact that many of the attractive free agents at the position are getting tagged or re-signed, and it looks like more of a challenge. And I really don't see his replacement in this draft. At least not for a team looking to win sooner than later.

I'll just say this they didn't shave $47M in salary this year out of shear boredom agreed -- Plus, in listening to Colbert's comments, it's clear that it will be OUR decision whether to keep wallace or not -- if someone makes a ridiculously high offer, maybe we don't match it -- But if it's a fair but high offer, I think we will match it and keep him. Colbert knows that Wallace won't be had cheaply -- he is keeping his options open with the cap room. No, he would rather than pay the going franchise tag rate if he doesn't have to, but he probably will if that's what someone else offers.

The Steelers have about 15M in cap room. 8M for tenders for RFA and ERFA. 5M for draft picks. Not much left over for other FA. I see some more cuts coming.
