Here's a draft idea: take Hill in rd 1, spend the remaining picks on OL and an ILB somewhere.

Rotate the 4 WR, and protect the D by scoring points. Shit, just think of what that 4-wide would do for a running play!

those 4 would make an offensive line or your defense look damn good.

I know you were kinda joking, but that's why I'd like to see them drop some dead weight and make a FA play for Ted Ginn Jr....4 wides would be fun to watch....pass or run!

Except that Ginn doesn't add anything to the skill sets and he doesn't require double team. Ginn a good player but you'd be adding him to a recipe that already has a lot of his ingredient.

I know he's not 6'4", but he is also a great KR/PR. If Ward and Cotchery are gone, I say pick up Ginn cheap and draft Hill via the "third round WR steal plan." Four wides, three sub 4.36 guys and two low 4.4 guys with mayor quicks to choose from....or dare I say 5 wides?

What a minute....what are we the Raidahs? Nah...our guys can actually play WR.

Holly Crap B........
can you imagine throwing Wallace, AB, Sanders and Hill out there in a 4 wide...........with Redman lined up in the backfield........

1. Probably get a defensive T.O.......when they see thes 4 break the huddle.....
2. Speed, Speed, quick, precise, height, elusive.............inside, outside, underneath, over the top, crossing.....
3. ok, go nickel or dime.......which one of those extra DB's is gonna enjoy tackling Redman with a head of steam.......
4. or we go 5 wide with those 4....to set up the bubble screen to Ward........OK, OK........but Ward in a 5 wide with those 4 would be wide open or left uncovered.

In a nutshell, that's why you go BPA... It can make you better in a different way than you expected to improve.

I don't think I'd pick a duplicate of anything we have on O... But I would pick ANY offensive player who's an upgrade or different skillset, and I think I'd pick almost anything on D that can help provide depth or be groomed as a starter. I'm not so stuck on ILB or NT or OG, great as those needs may be.

Tell me you guys aren't talking about drafting Stephen Hill in round 1.

Perch, I have no idea yet where a guy like Stephen Hill should be drafted... merely saying that I'm trying to keep an open mind about BPA vs. getting locked into one guy.

If Stephen Hill does nothing well yet besides run fades and jump balls in the red zone... how many points does that add to the Steelers offense? How much does that open up the slants? How much does that open up the red zone run game? You want to protect your D as it transitions or deal with a 3rd or 4th round ILB starter to pair with Timmons? Score some more points. (I'm just saying there's more than one way to skin a cat and passing up a planet theory guy to address a need is bad business.)

by the way, Bunting has him around 27, draftscout at 61.

For starters, keepin an open mind should make me less freaked out when they pick someone I don't prefer in round 1 LOL

Perch........we are playing the what if game.............it is fascinating.
I think the Hill kid was a mid to late 2nd round to a 3rd round pick before the combine...........
His combine has certainly raised his stock..............

Not sure how many WR's had less than 50 career catches and still went in the 1st round...........

The GT program has developed some monsters in C. Johnson and Demaryius Thomas...........sure they are physical specimans.......but it also must say something about coaching down there.....

I've been saying we should draft a tall WR in the 3rd or 4th round, regardless of MW signing.......and silly me was thinking we'd have a shot at grabbing this kid in those rounds........but not afer this weekend.

Anxious to see how the DBs perform today, I see the Steelers adding a guy later in the draft to replace Gay.

Anyone know why Markelle Martin didn't run today? I have him penciled in as a potential [late] 2nd RD FS in several mocks going to us. Perhaps he wants to run on his own field he's used too?

I hear you guys on Hill. I just would never touch a player like that in round 1. He didn't run anywhere near the full route tree in college, he had issues with drops, and he will be over-drafted due to his size and speed. Darius Heyward-Bey ring a bell? I'm not saying there isn't a chance he could turn into the next Randy Moss, but I wouldn't be willing to find out, not in the top 2 rounds anyway. If I had to guess I'd say he goes to the Ravens at the end of round 2. They had a meeting with him at the combine and are looking for another receiver.

And if I was going to waste a 1st round pick on a WR, Michael Floyd is a much safer pick.

I'd they line up Hill, smith, and Boldin... We're fucked, just because you'd have to cover them as if you assume they'll catch it... And that leaves ray rice in a lot of open ground.

If I had an idea I could get ILB, OG, and maybe NT or another OT in 3 of the first four rounds... I'd be okay with using a 2nd or 3rd on a red zone player.
