Last year of Heath's contract, situation with Saunders, DJ a marginal player.
Was resisting it because "big TE" has become on offseason fad, but we need one.

I'm thinking the same thing
I won't be shocked to see one in 2nd-4th RD this year

Including this coming season, Heath has 3 years left on his deal. Unless his salary escalates to the point of him being substantially overpaid (or more overpaid - however you want to look at it), he'll be back next year.
I'm on board with drafting the big and athletic TE, but I find it hard to believe it would be worth it since Haley and Ben seem to prefer multiple WR sets and the fact that it would be unlikely Heath is taken off the field for another TE.

realizing we need a legit #1 TE doesn't turn any of the pumpkins floating around this year into legit NFL #1 TEs though.

My problem with this is just that none of the TEs in this year's draft excite me.
