I really don't believe the Steelers will end up staying at 31 this year. And while a trade up would seem likelier based off prior history, I just don't see the right guy being there to move up for. There's no Santonio Holmes as the top WR in the draft falling this year, or a guy as super talented as Troy Polamalu on the board in the mid to late teens. So here's how I see it playing out:
2a. Brandon Harris, CB, Miami 2b. James Brewer, OT, Indiana 3. Taiwan Jones, RB, Eastern Washington 4a. Austin Pettis, WR, Boise State 4b. Curtis Marsh, CB, Utah State 5. Jerrell Powe, DT, Ole Miss 6. Mark Legree, S, Appalachian St. 7. Dan Bailey, K, Oklahoma St. Bonus: Brandon Harris (Rd. 1) Bonus: Curtis Brown (Rd. 2)
tiebreaker #1: 3 tiebreaker #2: 95
The Steelers trade down to the late 30s/early 40s to let a team move up for a QB and still nab Harris who slips due to his size, allowing William Gay to leave to FA. Carpenter goes before 63, so the Steelers take the next best big man they like in Brewer. Jones slips due to injury concerns/rawness but the Steelers consider it BPA. The Steelers use their extra pick early in the 4th on Austin Pettis, then bring in Marsh to compete with Lewis for a roster spot. Powe slips and goes 5th, Legree is a special teamer + in the 6th, and with the state of FA's and their ability to sign up in the air, the Steelers use their 7th on a kicker to compete with Suisham in training camp (if there is one heh).
