"The Steelers believe Mike Wallace will not report today for training camp and will resume a holdout that occurred all spring over contract negotiations.

With that stance by Wallace, the Steelers are likely to suspend negotiations on a multiple-year contract for their Pro Bowl wide receiver.

Next move, then, is up to Wallace apparently. He can either sign his one-year, $2.472 million offer on the table and report to training camp or, stay away."

Say it ain't so, Mike.

They need to franchise him next year. Either they sign long term or tag and trade, they can't just let him walk without being compensated.

It's a delicate situation for Mike. It's a risk to show up to camp without a long-term deal in place. He could blow his ACL first day of camp for all he knows. So I'm not mad at him for holding out.

But this is a GREAT opportunity for Sanders to step up. I know he's been on the injury report a few times, but I think he has tremendous talent and will be a solid receiver in the NFL.

I'm not overly concerned about Wallace not showing up to camp. We still have plenty of talent at receiver w/ out him. But that's not to say we wouldn't be better with him obviously.

This is what's going to happen if Wallace decides to play hardball and stay out until Week 10. The Steelers have three capable wide receivers without him. Not saying he's not needed, but if he holds out until and Sanders, Brown and Cotch are doing fine, there's a good chance he may not see the field until 2013, and he may end up costing himself millions in the process. It truly is a fine line.

The PS have Wallace by the balls. It's just a matter of time.

Apparently, the Steelers have had enough of negotiating with Mike Wallace.

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Steelers have decided to shut down contract talks with the talented receiver -- who further raised the team's ire when he didn't report to camp on time.

Wallace -- who supposedly is interested in Larry Fitzgerald-type money (eight years, $120 million) -- is the only restricted free agent in the league who has not signed his tender, and until he does (it's worth $2.472 million for 2012), the team is not going to discuss a multi-year contract with him.

The Post Gazette notes that Hines Ward, who had one year left on his contract at the time, held out for two weeks in 2005 and the team stopped negotiating with him until he showed up at training camp. Three weeks after he made his appearance, Ward got his four-year extension.

About a week ago, CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora said that the two sides were close to a deal, reporting that “the situation has certainly improved since early this offseason” and that “both sides are motivated to complete a long-term contract."

But Wallace's refusal to show for training camp apparently has brought both sides back to the beginning.

In April, Wallace's camp made it clear that he wouldn't sign his free agent tender until “he had to.” You have to wonder when that time will come -- or if it's already passed.

You should be concerned as a Steelers fan

One capable player and 2 injury risks.

Do you juggle? Make balloon animals? 1st major Wr injury in the NFL puts Wallace in the driver seat...It takes one....If that injury is a Steelers player...Wallace will want Larry Fitz money... Injuries allow Wallace to negotiate from a position of power. The Steelers can not fine Wallace...He is not getting paid for the Pre season...He got no signing bonus with the tender...He gets 17 pay checks starting week 1. Playoff bonuses are through the NFL...No fucking way he comes to camp IMO. I say he reports after the Bye...I think that's optimistic.

Hines Ward, who had one year left on his contract

The bold part ends the point...Its Apples and Oranges
