i don't know of many good body-resistance methods for building significant lower-body strength, which is one reason i imagine guys who only do body-resistance training are a very small minority in football.

power clean with over-under grip and front hack squat

both are killer for core strength because you have to snap your hips to finish

Can you explain to me how you do a power clean with an over-under grip?

wide base, grip inside your knees. Butt down, chin and eyes up, lift and roll your shoulders back

but I'm going to guess your being sarcastic so fire away

over/under probably refers to a deadlift. can't do a powerclean with an opposing grip like that.

Power Cleans
Hang Cleans
Military Press/Push Press.
Explosive standing movements.

Most things from the seated position or on your back are useless when it comes to functional football training

NFL players are elite athletes....Different players do different things. Cross Fit to Hand Fighting with sticks

Jerry Rice ran the hill
Ngata trains in Sand
Jon Kolb worked the farm
Clay Jr trains MMA

Resistance based training including plyometrics(Use of the body) is a large part of NFL off season training for some players.

Examples

LB's Safeties Tight Ends Safeties running backs want explosive training...Quickness power

DB's and Wr's want speed.

Hope that helps to answer your quality question Sir

Ngata need to train for stamina. 2 seasons in a row he has been a superstar in first 4-5 games then tail off begins to the point by the end of the season he was a milk carton candidate 2 years running. I bet I get hammered for this but to me the best DT in the division is Geno Atkins. He outplayed Ngata for most of the season.

there aren't a ton of traditional bodyweight exercises that have any functional benefit in the game of football...

pull-ups/chin-ups work muscles that just aren't really all that important in football.

in my completely amateur opinion, the three most important lifts for a generic football player are:

incline bench
squat
power clean

IMO flat bench is overrated, incline bench translates better from a range of motion perspective.

the other lifts are mostly just there to strengthen the muscles that oppose the "football" muscles.

Flat bench can actually damage your shoulders. Those who focus too much on flat bench and ignore their back can actually affect their posture and roll their shoulders forward.

Geno Atkins is very good at what he does.

He guesses the count and explodes up field.

He can't anchor or beat blocks....He also rarely draws double teams rushing the passer playing beside Mike Johnson or Carlos Dunlap.

Atkins is a very solid player...Ngata is asked to do so much for the Ravens...I believe Ngata made Suggs an elite player

Hack Squats
Squats
Leg Presses
Deadlifts
Power Cleans
Shoulder Press
Push Ups
Dips

Notice a trend? Most are exercises for the major muscles in the body...which is what is taxed during a football game.
The smaller muscles (biceps, calves, triceps, etc...) get worked while lifting for the major stuff.
