Full back scenario question.
If let's say it was last season and we were playing oh I don't know some team from Indianapolis and Dwight Freeney is eating Jon Scott's lunch for him. Would you not like to have a FB that could chip or assist on the edge? While Mendenhall or Rainey or Moore or Dwyer or whomever runs a flat or that angle route that Ray Rice is so good at or would we rather not see that?
Just throwing out there to see what the opinions are.

Just throwing out there to see what the opinions are. Having a FB is not all that important anymore. I'd say the majority of teams don't have them anymore. It's almost an obsolete position.

Giants Saints Packers Steelers Did ok with a fullback since 2005. Before that Pats Ravens and Rams did ok with a fullback. I would agree the fullback position is not valued in the draft. I would also agree teams run less "I" formation. The fullback position is far from obsolete....At least by championship teams over the past 15 years. David Johnson will be a very solid fullback...He can play at a more natural weight of 255 pounds instead of 270.

NY Giants
Super Bowl champs
Henry Hynoski
rookie UDFA fullback (from Pitt)
started in Super Bowl and contributed to the playoff run and the big SB win
I'd like to see our offense with a fullback again

It truly is amazing to me that someone could say that. 3 of the last 4 Superbowl winners all utilized a fullback. but hey let's copy the teams that are not winning the Superbowl. Just because some other teams that don't have the pedigree of a 20 or 40 year run of being the best team in the NFL (Steelers) are not using a fullback we should emulate them? Shit the thing that started this whole thing with Noll was a 2 fullback set.

I'd like to see our offense with a fullback again Hynoski was a shoe in to sign with the Steelers if you know like um.... we actually had the position in the offense with Arians. That kid is a weapon. Blocks like Krieder and catches like John L. Williams pretty much. You can also line him up as an H-back or TE if you had to.

FB's are nothing more than subpackage players. Like a nickel LB. You only keep one if he's that good to unseat another roster spot

Keith Butler said it best, the days of the downhill ISO play are gone I don't know if that is 100 percent true. once teams start putting some smaller/faster LB's out there and somebody finds a Lorenzo Neal to clear holes for the backs to run through then all of a sudden having a new FB may be vogue again to open up holes for a strong running game that D's are not set to deal with due to lack of size. All this stuff has been cyclical for years. Big backs to scat backs to power backs to midget backs (Sproles, MJD, Rice)

Hynoski was 12 for 83 last season. That ain't Williams territory.
