Its not often KC and I agree, especially about RB's, but I think we have both been talking up Redmans abilities for quite some time. I remember seeing him run for the first time, and I had to stop what I was doing to take a second look. You just don't see that kind of runner very often. He has great vision, which translates to him being a very natural runner. He breaks so many tackles because he hits the right angle and finds the right seam by nature which usually means the tackler is off balance and not able to bring him down as easily, if at all. He does this being as heavy as he is, which makes him dangerous. Even if you do hit him right you are going to pay a price for it, and over the length of a game guys start getting squimish about taking those direct on hits which just leads to even more yards. Think of a young Bettis with someone like Ben at QB from the start. I see a helluva lot of talent in Redman, and I am very excited to see it come to fruition here in Pittsburgh.

I'll see your excitement...
and I'll raise you his receiving ability out of the backfield,
and the fact that he's now playing for an OC that just might take advantage of those abilities,

And my excitement just doubled yours... :)

Comparing Isaac Redman to a young Jerome Bettis is fucking ridiculous. Jerome rushed for 6100 yards in his first 5 years. His feet were unreal for a big guy -- and he was bigger than Redman.

I don't know why people need to overrate players. He's a good player. He's not a young Jerome Bettis.

jerome seemed to be a much better receiver in college when he was about 30 or 40 pounds lighter, still had the best feet of any big back i can remember, used to love watching him pound teams into submission unfortunately it never worked in the playoffs

was very glad that we were able to get him his SB, he deserved it, dude took a beating being the entire offense for years

Thank you so much for making this point.

to me, the comparison for Redman is MBIII (Marion Barber III)

there isn't anything about Redman that resembles Bettis to me

That's a comparison I can get behind. Loved how he ran, but damn did the wheels fall off quick.

If Redman can keep running the ball like he has since he became a Steeler, people can compare him to whoever they want.

He's real good.

Mendy says his knee is still swollen and sore. I have doubts that he'll make it back for the first game.

Steelers’ Mendenhall ready to run in 2012
By Scott Brown
Tribune-Review
Published: Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 8:18 p.m.

Rashard Mendenhall said he will play this season, and the Steelers running back didn’t rule out doing so in the
Sept. 9 season opener in Denver.

“There’s always the possibility,” Mendenhall said Wednesday. “I’ll be back at some point. It’s just a matter of what point that is.”

Mendenhall’s future here has been murky, on several levels, since he tore the ACL in his right knee Jan. 1.

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert has said it usually takes a year to fully recover from that injury. And the Steelers have braced for the possibility that Mendenhall will spend the first six weeks of the season on the physically unable to perform list.

Mendenhall is in the final year of his contract, but the Steelers’ 2008 first-round pick plans on playing through whatever risk comes with returning this season. When asked if there is any chance he won’t play in 2012, Mendenhall said, “I don’t see that happening at all.”

Mendenhall, the Steelers’ leading rusher the past three seasons, said he is still experiencing soreness and swelling in the knee he hurt in the Steelers’ 2011 regular-season finale in Cleveland.

The 5-foot-10, 225-pounder didn’t appear to be favoring it while running on the side during the Steelers’ first two offseason practices, and Mendenhall said he has been cutting and doing other things that put him on track to return in 2012.

There is not a whole lot in the way of experience behind Mendenhall.

Third-year man Isaac Redman has shown promise, but he has made just two career starts. No other healthy running back on the roster has more than 25 career carries.

The Steelers are eager to see if Redman, who rushed for 213 yards in the final two games last season, is ready to handle an increased workload.

“Everybody here has confidence in Isaac,” Mendenhall said.

It depends on what 'The Load' is. If it is grinding down the final 10-12 minutes of the clock with the lead then - for sure yes. If it means grinding down the clock and all the carries up to that point then - yes, but he will probably wear down as the season goes on.

Early in the season Isaac might see the most work, but he should be properly spelled to maintain his effectiveness throughout the season. Ideally Mendenhall comes back at full speed soon, and that allows Redman to be an unstoppable force late in games. If Dwyer shows out well, and Batch can rotate in to get some carries and catches then Pittsburgh should have a very effective group of runners.

Redzone will kick butt.

It appears Isaac Redman will replace Rashard Mendenhall in Steelers starting lineup
by JamesSmith
from: faniq.com

Redman admitted he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t nervous about his new role in the team. Rashard Mendenhall’s injury has sidelined the running back for an indefinite period. Moreover, the man who loves to run the ball, Todd Haley is the new offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers. All of this points to one thing; Isaac Redman is the new starting running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Isaac Redman is already receiving approvals from his teammates. “Isaac is ready,” Rashard Mendenhall said while offensive lineman Willie Colon stated, “He's been running over people long enough. He's ready.”

Rashard Mendenhall, who tore his ACL in the season finale last year, was expected to return to the gridiron this February. However, Pittsburgh Steelers’ medical staff has made it clear that Rashard Mendenhall needs more time for a full recovery.

Everyone thought Rashard Mendenhall’s injury will bring Chris Rainey to the field. Chris Rainey’s super speed and impeccable catching abilities made him the number one choice after Rashard Mendenhall. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for more brawn than in the 5-foot-8-inch 180-pound Chris Rainey.

This left the Pittsburgh Steelers with one option and that was Isaac Redman.

“Even when I wasn't starting, coming into (last) season, there was some kind of nerves,” Isaac Redman admitted after he was given the news of his new role in the team. “We'll see what happens. Right now I'm just working in the weight room and getting my body together.”

The 6-foot 230-pound running back, Isaac Redman understands why he should remain humble in spite of his sudden promotion. Just around three years ago, Isaac Redman barely made it to the practice squad.

However, Isaac Redman has been improving ever since. Isaac Redman knows he is the first on the depth chart at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last season, Isaac Redman had 121 yards on 17 carries. Later, Isaac Redman also caught two important balls in the playoff loss to the Denver Broncos. Isaac Redman understands that playing under pressure will be a new experience for him.

“When one guy is not here, another guy steps up,” Isaac Redman said. “That's Steelers football.”

Rashard Mendenhall admits he has a lot of respect for Isaac Redman.

“Isaac is a great player,” Rashard Mendenhall said. “The way he works and prepares and even coming from where he came from, being undrafted to where he is now.”
