I see this in reference to the Steeler's draft and I have an idea about what it means (to me anyways), just curious what it means to others. There are things I love about the current NFL and things I seriously hate, but what is "Goodell's NFL", if he gets his way, what would it be like?

Arena Football style of play where QBs wear flags and corporate sponsors cover the uniforms.
Goodell cares about PR and marketing to the casual fan that wants entertainment not football. That's it.

Since the start of the 2008 season, the Steelers percentage of designed rush plays has declined from a high of 46.4 percent of their plays in 2010 to 39.6 last season. - Chris Mortensen

I like Arena Football and in Arena Football the QBs don't wear flags, they get hammered pretty good. I would have no problem with corporate logos on the uniforms either, that is common in pro sports in just about any country in the world. And if the game isn't "entertainment", what the hell is it? I recently watched Super Bowl IX and then shortly thereafter, Super Bowl XLIII, and hands down XLIII was by far, the more entertaining and way better product, no way I'd ever advocate to regress to that inferior product that was offered in '74.

you know, there is this little thing called the Super Bowl! ha The owners want the casual fans. They're the ones who want players to wear pink so more women watch. They're the ones that made horsecollar tackles illegal, and late hits, and low hits on QBs. I would guess 99% of the rules originate at the owners meetings. Goodell is just a stuffed suit. He's not changing the game. He's just trying his gosh darndest not to fuck up the cushiest job a red-blooded American male could possibly imagine having.

The 1970s was perhaps the most dominant era in professional football, and this included the early to mid-70's. To each their own. That was superior entertainment to my eyes.
SB IX is perhaps one of my favorite all time SB's. The defensive dominance and the ground game is a beauty to behold. We'll never see the like again, unfortunately.
Bottom line, though, is that any SB the Steelers play in and emerge victorious from is a great SB and highly entertaining.

Welcome to another roundabout way for Nick to express his love for passing. You talked about how you watched Super Bowl 9 vs 43 several times before the draft. Why are you bringing up 1974? Is that the only alternative to being pass whacky? There were Super Bowls played since then...how about '78 and '79? I didn't say that Arena Football players wear flags. I'm not stupid. I said Goodell wants Arena Football style of play where QBs wear flags. That meant with the addition of QBs wearing flags. Just because the rest of the soccer loving world thinks something is a good idea and its the only way they can get enough revenue for their sport, doesn't mean it's a good idea or that we should emulate it. You don't know the difference between movies and sports? Both are forms of entertainment but shouldn't be like each other. Sports are entertaining, when you try to make them into entertainment, you lose something. I didn't think that needed to be explained.

We Drafted 2 OL 1 LB 1 NT Rounds 1 through 4
We Drafted 5th round RB 7a WR 7b TE
All this tells me is the Steelers addressed areas of weakness…Nothing about Goodell’s NFL.

Goodell's NFL=
-"Protecting the shield" through inconsistent fines and suspensions
-Head scratching rule changes
-Defenses being increasingly handicapped against the more pass happy movement of today
-Qb's(except ben/vick) being treated as a sacred entity
-An unnamed vertically challenged olb being put in the sleeper hold/cobra clutch routinely with no holding call
-Reviews after every scoring play, even if the guy got two feet down with possession one foot into the end zone
-Every big hit being scrutinized though 145 different slow motion replays

Big O Lineman
Smurf WRs
Give the QB time to throw to the smurfs who aren't allowed to be hit.
That's todays NFL.

It follows today's pussification of America. Things that were "natural" when i grew up is now forbidden and kids whine about everything. We're growing a society of outright pussies!
