Quote: Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora Interesting note on Bruce Irvin, the 1st 1st rounder to sign. Jets and Steelers had a draft-deal essentially done for NY to drop back Jets were gonna take Irvin or Coples in the mid-20s, and Steelers would take DeCastro at 16. Once Seattle took Irvin at 15, Jets pulled out Interesting to see the Jets and Seahawks both had Irvin rated that highly. If this is true, it shows how well the draft really fell for the Steelers.

Thank you Jesus that the Seahawks are so dumb. Trading up that far would have cost us big time.

I think he's going to be better than a lot of guys who got picked ahead of him... and if they hadn't taken him, there's a chance they would have lost out on him before they had another, later pick. How is that dumb... because it's not what Mel Kiper would have done?

does peaches even know the draft is over? his sources must have gone on vacation for a few weeks if he's just now "reporting" that hypothetical trade that wasn't.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I could come back and say that the Steelers had a deal in place with the Raiders to trade their number one for the rest of the Raiders picks- that was until the Browns took Weeden and the Raiders lost interest. 8 But I guess now we can all say that the Steelers REALLY like Decastro.

I heard from my sister's cousin's former roommate that the Steelers were going to trade Ben and Wallace for RG III. I figure pulling stuff straight out of my ass is equal to what Peaches does.
Seriously, I've been a journalist for 17 years. They guy is an embarrassment. Occasionally he gets a story right, but it's through blind stupid luck than by him being any good. I'm really starting to think that GMs around the league are just screwing with him to see if he'll report it.

There was word during the draft that we had looked to trade up to take DeCastro once he fell to the mid teens. According to Colbert we are always in negotiations to move up or down, we simply don't often pull the trigger.
I think both Seattle and the Jets would have overpaid for Irvin but whatever. Under Carroll the Seahawks have no qualms about not getting value and the Jets could really use a pass rusher so I get where they are coming from.
I'm most glad that we got our guy without having to trade up, helped us save our picks to trade up in the 4th.

So Peaches was late with this report.
That doesn't make it inaccurate.
I find it highly likely it is accurate.
I don't doubt the Steelers were as surprised as anyone when Decastro fell all the way top their pick.
No one expected him to still be there.
