I remember he and Sean Rogers were wrecking fools in Texas, but Hamp was known as the sure thing - the motor guy while Rogers was big play penetrator. Hamp went in the first and I think Rogers in the second. I'm looking for a pre-draft report on Hampton so I can compare it to what they say about Alameda. I find it hard to believe #98 was once known for his nonstop motor. You would never guess looking at him now From looking at tape Alameda looks a lot more like Rogers than Hampton. Shows good ability to penetrate when matched 1 on 1 but I didn't see the lower-body anchoring strength that has made Casey the best in the 3-4 biz.

I don't have any archived reports, but from memory I recall it being a very surprising selection. Rogers was considered the superior pro prospect and observers thought the Steelers could have drafted Hampton in the 2nd round. People were asking if the Steelers got their Texas DTs confused. I remember being displeased b/c I thought it was poor value. I definitely remember the high motor thing. He still plays hard, just huge and out-of-shape.
Also, the Bengals crushed the 2001 draft, Justin Smith (although passed on Tomlinson and Seymour), Ochocinco, Rudi Johnson, and TJ Shoebomber.

i'm pretty sure it said that he's too short, too frail, his body won't be able to handle the nfl and he should move to safety.

Rogers has had a pretty good NFL career. I'd be happy if Ta'amu is as good.

when you take on a pair of NFL double teams to anchor a decade long historic run defense, I'd call that a non-stop motor

LTW, thanks for that. Ourlads had Rogers graded higher than Hampton. Rogers looks to be ranked somewhere in the late 1st, Snack well into the second. So maybe Bruce Irvin will be a 12-year starter?
