IF they show the old films where guys are kicking total ass and taking names, they'll be sure to be called out for being hypocritical regarding the new 'safety standards'
We love those old fims.......airing them is the last thing they'll do. Reducing their staff in NJ was a calculated move to go away from the 'old nfl' and become a pussified league. Why have that staff there putting together those bash and crash films anymore. Let's give them top ten lists until your ass hurts..
You can probably bet Goodell would rather have Sabol in a box.
The No Fun League is now another entertainment option on the dial an no longer our NFL.

it's bullshit. All I want is the coache's cut of film, and some unbiased, football educated man to break it down for me. Charlie Casserly said the NFL should NEVER release the coache's cut or I believe what is called the "22 cut", to the general public, for it would lead to INCREDIBLE second guessing on everything. Orwellian in the extreme. release the fucking 22 cut, and let's actually see what the hell is going on. nobody gives a shit about your top 100, or any other of the horseshit you produce on a daily basis....

I'd like to see them air a whole series of the old NFL Films shows that used to run on Saturday afternoons when I was a kid. The league owns NFL Films now so they could edit them however they want. And it'd be much better than hearing a bunch of used-to-be players trying to dig themselves out of bankruptcy (Warren Sapp) by spewing bullshit and opinions that nobody cares about.
It would be great for the younger fans to gain a historical perspective of professional football too! I personally would love to see the old footage of players like Ollie Matson, Mike Ditka, Joe Schmidt, Otto Graham, Jim Brown, Bobby Layne, and Norm Van Brocklin. Take it back as far as the tape will allow. Sort of like the History Channel for football, "if you will." This would be the absolute best use of their air time especially during the off-season. Wouldn't even have to be every day, but maybe a few days a week when very few folks can watch live, but can DVR it for later viewing, like late night/overnight, or during the day. This would go a long way to educating younger folk about how the game used to be played, and why older folks still talk about some of these guys who played 40 or more years ago.

SteelDrama wrote: Swiss, thanks for starting this thread. The NFL network has been a source of frustration for me since its inception. I had high expectations for the network only to be let down year in and year out. Path to the draft a staple show for me but to me it’s an example of how the NFL network does not tap into its resources. The player footage is horrible, the guests are subpar, and they never speak to college coaches let alone pro coaches, gm’s, or scouts. Bermeister, Casserly, Lombardi, Baldinger, Billick, and Mayock are all solid IMO.
As far as Eisen, I agree Mayock despises him as do I. Eisen constantly agitated him by bringing up Tebow’s name at every opportunity. When Mayock finally did engage in the Tebow discussion the NFL network went to a split screen showing Eisen making weird faces as Mayock went off.
Then toward the end of the draft when teams were grading drafts in great detail, Eisen chimed in saying with a vague LaMichael James to San Fran reference, Mayock just rolled his eyes in disgust…classic. Eisen’s 10 minute rant was just awful after the punter was drafted by the jags. Steelafan jokingly opined Eisen was drunk, if only that was the reason behind such douchebagery. I’m all for humor and levity during the draft, but at least make it…you know…funny.
I get why the network hired Eisen, they needed a personality with some hip to him, but Eisen has morphed into a supreme douchebag. Siciliano an embarrassment to people like me with a vowel at the end of their name. He’s a supreme dork and Eisen wannabe that needs to go back to his redzone show on Sundays and stay there.
P.S. Soto ok, but I prefer Alex Flannigan. I've always been impressed with that Hanson guy, (the redzone channel host) He's so smooth and his job has got to be utter chaos jumping from game to game. He pull it off without a hitch.

I like Hansen, he's a smooth host for the NFL RZ show.

What would be really nice though would be true "Classic Sports Network". I mean a serious one, the ESPN Classic takes games from a year ago and calls it "Classic", When I think "Classic" I think '80s, or earlier, REAL classics, like '70s Super Bowls, Miricle on Ice hockey game, 1960 WS Game 7, that's some stuff they've shown and it is amazing to watch.

I watch NFLN about everyday. I don't find it insufferable as some do - I guess I don't take it that seriously. I certainly don't watch anything pertaining to Tebow. I'm just now able to watch the GB SB loss. Cowher's old cliche "a play here or there" rings true when watching that one. Anyway, there's my 2 cents.

Mayock was talking over EVERYONE.
Eisen I understand but I thought Mayock was too goddamn arrogant this time...he clearly wants the draft to be HIS show and I don't blame him - except it would just be his opinions and that would suck.
Mayock was also a douchebag if he predicted a pick immediately before and the team went another way. He'd say he is surprised blah blah and waste precious seconds listlessly reformatting his analysis to the actual pick. It was unprofessional quite a few times.
Someone has to remind him that there are a boatload of guys itching for his job....

Anyone catch Eisen saying those most non-NFLers "would give their left ___"...to play in the NFL. He didn't say nut, but it was a nut substitute.
On a related topic, was watching a panel on CNN, where Alex Castellanos....a GOP consultant, talking about Obama's ad on Romney said, (almost verbatim)"This is an attempt to wield a big stick by people that have really small sticks to make up for their having small sticks." The big stick/small stick thing was verbatim.

Yeah I've heard nothing but bad things about that guy off-camera. That said, I have a college buddy who's brother is a cameraman for NFLN and Eisen is reportedly real easy going and one of the most genuinely nice people he's ever met in the business. ---- Steve Hanson is awesome. Seriously. Just put him, Mayock, and Casserly on tv for everything.
