Tanney opted not to sign with the Steelers and will be attending Bills camp.
Someday the Steelers will invest time into a younger QB...our backups have a combined age approaching 80. Ugh.

Quote: Tanney reneged on an apparent agreement to work out with the Steelers during their orientation. However, he changed his mind, called the Steelers and said they were okay with it. It’s really no big deal. The Steelers quickly turned to another quarterback, Oregon’s Darron Thomas, for a tryout this weekend. http://plus.sites.post-gazette.com/inde ... um=twitter Darron Thomas 6'3 215 Oregon. Some #'s from his combine: Thomas ran a 4.80 second 40-yard dash time, which was on the back end of times run by quarterbacks. He certainly made up for it with his broad jump though, showing as the top performer amongst quarterbacks with a 121 inch leap. He got up only 14 reps in the bench press, 36 inch vertical jump, 7.17 second three cone drill, and a 4.28 second 20-yard shuttle. Stats from Oregon: http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml ... I was looking to see what Tanney was going to do. Think Next year the steelers will have to look into grooming a young QB. We can't depend on Batch and leftwhich beyong next season.

Darron Thomas sucks. Decent college player, but just not an NFL fit. I hope he finished his degree, because he'll soon be moving on to his life's work.
Troy Smith has a decent chance at beating out Batch, but I think it would have to be a situation where Smith clearly outperforms him, and then the FO would sit down with Batch and ask him to be a coach at that point.

NONE of the other qb will beat out Batch and Lefty unless they get injured which could be a great possibility. The steelers will probally scout the list of Qb after all the cuts and add a PS guy

I don't understand why the team can't just cut Batch at the end of training camp & find the best young QB who's been cut & going to be put on that team's practice roster. Some team is going to try to sneak a good, young QB on their practice roster & Charlie won't be signed by anyone & available if we need a veteran QB who's good for a few series of plays before his body quits on him. I would say the same for Lefty but another team could sign him as a backup if their primary QB becomes injured & we need a QB who is game ready, regardless.

You have to believe the front office knows what they are doing. Very unlikely that a div 3 QB makes the roster by beating out our two old men. Did Dixon sign with anyone?

Can I ask why the hell the Steelers waste time with non-QB athletes rather than bring an actual QB into camp?
