Or would it just have been another bunch of missed opportunities? Hypothetical, of course, but I wonder... Rarely does one see an instance wherein usage fits the definition of "Begs the question". Kudos.

Maybe a Chris Rainey "type" of player, but thats about it this draft clearly started BPA According to Bill Polian, in many draft rooms, Asst coaches and scouts aren't even allowed to talk unless asked a specific question due to time constraints with picks

I saw this on another football forum where fans of college teams tell the fans of pro teams about the players they drafted.
Oregon fan: Congratulations Pittsburgh, you have selected David Paulson, TE.
Paulson is a staple of the Pac-12 All-Academic teams; by the time he reaches your minicamp, Pittsburgh, he will have graduated with his MBA. But oh, he can play; he was arguably better in college than Ed Dickson, who is a member of your division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens.
What initially stands out about Paulson are his hands. He catches everything. There is not an off-target ball Ben Roethlisberger can throw that Paulson cannot come down with. He possesses exceptional spatial awareness, meaning if you send him on a route he will find his way open. He has zero qualms about going over the middle and getting the tough yardage.
Paulson has questionable timed speed and isn't the world's best athlete for the position, but he understands football better than, I would venture, any other TE in this draft. You apparently want him perform some H-back duties as well, which differs from how the Ducks used him, but he is capable of making the adjustment, if any player is.
Regarding blocking: Paulson is decent-to-good. Don't ask him to block the Dwight Freeneys of the world, but he will handle himself competently on linebackers and quite well on safeties. Paulson understands what it means to finish a block, which undoubtedly endeared him to the Steelers; Oregon had several plays this season where Paulson blocked his man down the field 20 yards or more.
He is a quiet individual who doesn't show much outward emotion but takes his work seriously. He is also a highly regarded teammate. This is a good player who could, one day, wind up being a steal.
VERDICT: GOOD PICK.
Texas A&M fan: Terrence Frederick, CB, Round 7 Pick 38 (Steelers) Prediction: Out of the league by next year.
Miami fan: Sean Spence - Pittsburgh Steelers I love this pick and love this man. Sean Spence was the shit at Miami. He's small, but whatever. Spence is fast. Ungodly fast. Runs a 4.4-4.5 40. Good speed sideline to sideline and is pretty good at dropping into coverage. Can be out-muscled by stronger TE's and FB's, but is very good at recognizing the run and putting himself into position to make a play. If anybody can coach up a linebacker, its Pittsburgh.
Alabama fan: Marquise Maze, Wide Receiver, Undrafted to the Pittsburgh Steelers I'm kinda surprised no one took a flyer on Maze. Probably because he's really tiny more than anything else. Anyway, the 40 time he ran, a 4.5, is a goddamn stinking lie. He runs way faster than that on the field. He's also an outstanding return man. Kinda fragile, though. And also, like I said, really tiny.
Florida fan: Chris Rainey, RB, 24th Pick in the 5th Round to the Pittsburgh Steelers
On a Florida team with an overabundance of speed at the running back position, Rainey was converted from a pure running back into a more "Percy Harvin-like" running back/receiver. He is most famous however for the magical things he could do for special teams, most notably his ability to block punts. He is a bit undersized for the running back position and durability is a concern, but he has the benefit of running behind one of his best friends in Maurkice Pouncey, Center for the Steelers. Much like Warrick Dunn in his prime, if he gets a hole he's gone.

Personally, I believe that Spence is going to put all this draft controversy to rest when he gets PT. The kid looks small-ish on tape I agree but if you've seen any close up pictures of him in camp you'll see the kid is just muscle. Looks like a rock solid individual. 5'11 is undersized for ILB no debate but from the looks of it Spence plays much bigger than his height suggests. This kid is super freak-ish in ability in addition to having football savvy intelligence. I think he sticks on the roster. JMO
