I hope they do well. The Colon and Cam are out with injuries.

DeCastro, Adams to start vs. Eagles
Teresa VarleySteelers.com

The Steelers top two picks, guard David DeCastro and tackle Mike Adams, will start their first NFL game when the Steelers play the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday night in the preseason opener.

DeCastro will start at right guard and Adams at left tackle.

"Both guys finish and they're smart, young guys," said Coach Mike Tomlin. "We'll know more about them Thursday night."

The two are excited to get on the field in game action, finally going against someone other than their teammates.

“I just want to have fun, play the game and enjoy it,” said DeCastro. “It’s a chance to hit someone other than your teammates. I just want to play physical and with a lot of high effort.”

Adams has been working with the first team at left guard the last few days in practice and is ready to do so in a game, when he knows the coaches’ eyes will be on him.

“I am really excited to go out and play against people other than our team and see how I fare against the competition,” said Adams. “When you get in the real atmosphere, game situations, that is what they are looking for. It is more of an evaluation.”

And his goal for Thursday night is simple.

“Get better every day is my goal, as long as I am better on Thursday than Wednesday, I am good with that.”

Guard Willie Colon and defensive end Cameron Heyward are the only two players ruled out of the game with injuries.

Since the start of the 2008 season, the Steelers percentage of designed rush plays has declined from a high of 46.4 percent of their plays in 2010 to 39.6 last season. - Chris Mortensen

He sprained his Toughness Gene, as he does at the end of every training camp. Injury takes until next training camp to heal.

Does anybody know what is wrong with Heyward? Thought he was having a solid camp.

Sprained ankle. There haven't been any fights since he was injured. Big noise, little action.

From Rotoworld:

Steelers rookie David DeCastro will start at right guard in Thursday's preseason opener.
This, despite the fact that DeCastro "hasn’t exactly been a camp sensation," per the Beaver County Times. It shows how serious the Steelers are about upgrading Ramon Foster. Fellow rookie Mike Adams will start at left tackle Thursday. Related: Mike Adams

Anyone that's been to Latrobe notice DeCastro struggling thus far?

Heyward has been a beast and is having a great Camp. Seems to have some kind of a back problem.

I'm pretty tired hearing bout Colon's "toughness & nasty demeanor". None of that shit has ever translated to the field.

Much like the "Jerome's in the best shape of his life" annual training camp article. I guess by "shape" they mean more round than the year before.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see Colon play in one preseason gane then miss the opener with injury. Hoping best 5 are on the field but damn Colon, make a freaking contribution already.
