A little homespun patriotism from the great Woody Guthrie...

Always liked Woody.

As we get to the eve of this birthday celebration, just once again want to send out my best wishes to my fellow Steeler fans, your families and loved ones. Enjoy the holiday for those who can. God Bless.

Happy early 4th everyone!!

I'm going to ask my kid if any other countries have a 4th of July, that actually tricked me in school, and is a good way to start him critically thinking.

Anyway, hope everyone has good beer, food, friends, family, fireworks & fun...not necessarily in that order, be safe guys!

When I was young and stationed overseas a bunch of us spent a 4th of July holiday in Amsterdam.

A group of Britts in one of the bars asked us what we were celebrating, to which we responded "the 4th of July".

That had no meaning to them.

I explained we were celebrating the day we flipped the bird to the King, defeated the mighty British army, and how we have now made England our bitch with their Prime Minister being just a puppet for the President of the United States of America. The presence of US troops in Europe was my justification that they couldn't even handle defense of their own county, and were now our servants.

Yes, there was a small brawl. But what the heck it was 4th of July, and I'll always have fond memories of battling the Britts on the holiday.

Happy 4th to all..

Quick story for y'all. So way back in the summer of '93 me and the guys went to Belmar to meet up with some college buddies from NJ for the 4th of July weekend (snookie probably wasn't even born yet). We made our usual lasting impression then headed back to Pittsburgh the morning of the 4th. Well, 'ol Drama was supposed to be at his girlfriend's for a picnic by lunch time. So when I got home late afternoon, I'm greeted by my dad who told me she had been calling all afternoon looking for me. My dad said that it was none of his business but that's not a good thing. So I called her back and let her yell at me for a minute or so then I calmly said, "Listen, it's the 4th of July, Independence Day so I'm declaring my independence from you." Then I hung up. The look of shock on my dad's face was priceless.

Anyway FC, THAT is an awesome shirt. I'm in the suburbs of Atlanta so generally not all that many true Southerners where I live. But I am going to a cookout later hosted by my LSU friends who simply referred to me as "yankee" my first year here so that shirt would be a HUGE hit.

Happy Indepedence day everybody.
