Even if cops aren't assholes, personally, to you... They will impound your car every fucking time if they get the chance.

First, they get to "process" it- so if there are any drugs, weapons or explosives, they find them and and tack on whatever.

Second, it's a racket. They know damn well that the yard they send the vehicles to is charging way over market for towing and everything else... How many tickets do you think the employees of the tow company and yard receive for speeding, ever?

And, if you are in a wreck or anything like that, they rationalize it as "you can just add that to your insurance claim".
