Exactly. And I get the sense Arians and Tomlin are going to take a few years off Mendenhall's career this season too.

We had just turned down the TV volume and turned on the radio, to hear Hilgrove, Tunch, and Wolf go in to celebration mode (our regular practice at the end of Steeler victories). When the ball popped loose, I think I went into a zombie like trance, and everything seemed to go in slow motion. I remember thinking, this isn't really happening, and all I could hear was Tunch screaming "OH NO, OH NO!"
I don't care whatever else Ben accomplishes, to me that tackle will be always be the iconic moment of his career. (Although you could argue that a certain TD pass at the end of a certain game in February of 2009 should rank right up there also.)

Agree with that completely.

And yes, if Ben doesn't make that tackle and Harper returns that pathetic fumble for a TD, it goes as one of the worst, most embarrassing sports plays in NFL history. He would have EASILY become Pittsburgh's version of Bill Buckner.

IF IF IF....You Bettis haters act as if Bettis actually LOST the fumble against Indy. Am I the only one who actually watched that game? It wasn't like Bettis just laid the football on the ground...it was a good hit that most running backs would be lucky not to fumble. Again, those of you who never played a sport show your true colors with each and every Bettis and Cowher hating post. In all team sports including football, one player or one coach alone does not cost his team games let alone championships and that includes Bill fucking Buckner.

Watch it a little closer. When I watched it, Harper came up with the fumble not Bettis.

I think the point is that the power back was put into a situation to salt away the game with the ball on the goal line. That was his bread and butter that year. He knew he was going to get hit. That is why you put the power back in.

It was his chance to redefine his post season rep. Instead he solidified it.

Bull fucking shit.

Bettis had one hand on the ball and tried to "get skinny" (ie, go into the endzone upright and sideways.)

Bettis was preparing his celebration dance in his head.

He thought the Colts quit.

He didn't protect the football.

That great hit happened because Bettis wasn't protecting the football.

That's inexcusable, especially in that situaion and, yes, Bettis "lost" that fumble. He came very, very close to costing the Steelers another season. Fumbles, Bettis and postseason are all words that go hand in hand.

Buckner did Bettis didn't. BIG difference. I laugh when i think about the play...it's a big sigh of relief type of feeling in that the Steelers RECOVERED the fumble. A NEAR disasterous play is not something I cling to in attempt to form an argument that Willie Parker is a better back than Jerome Bettis. Stunad.

Actually, if Bettis would have run the wrong way, one of his faster teammates would have tackled him, he would have run more time off the clock, and he wouldn't have fumbled, so the Steelers would have retained possession. He should have run the wrong way! :)

Super Tecmo Bowl coaching philosophy 101. ;)

I think the only "fast" guy was Ben. Remember, it was the goal line package. No WRs, I don't think Heath was on the field.
