Meanwhile, know-it-all condescending British intellectual Salman Rushdie condemned America's right to bear arms after the massacre.

He was completely unrestrained in his comments by the fact that he surrounded himself with armed guards for years after he was threatened with a fatwa for writing the Satanic Verses.

I'm sick of these asshole elite limey hypocrites.

Oh, and by the way, Century Theatres are a gun-free zone:

Mark my words, there will be some stupid regulations and security procedures after this TSA style and people will just decide to wait 6 months for the movie to come out on DVD.

A tyrannical US government that sets out to pacify the populace by force must do so by putting boots on the ground; troops to physically take and hold territory. If these troops were met by civilians all over the country armed with assault rifles and the like, the task of conquering a nationwide rebellion would be made much more difficult. No advantage in air/sea superiority, missiles, etc. would be enough to do the job absent ground forces.

Take away the assault weapons, and the job becomes much easier.

At what cost though? Arm all civilians? And you and I would have zero chance with the firepower that the USA has today with our "assualt rifles". Drones, tanks, aircraft, have always shown to be a force that can not be fought for long with the guns that we have. We would have to start ramping up with much higher weapons in the public sector and there is no way that is going to happen. Ground forces are only a small part of it now. Things have changed bigtime. The whole argument of protecting yourself from your government died long ago in reality. And even if it went to ground troups all you have to do is look at Iraq or Afgahanistan and see how futile it would be.

Jeez, dude. I'm not advocating it, I'm just giving you the logic behind it.

And quite frankly, you have no idea how successful/unsuccessful a heavily armed civilian population would be. There would have to be a troop presence, and the biggest X factor is what kind of stomach THEY have for killing American civilians.

Most of the military are from the South and Appalachia and rural America. They would be sympathetic to 2nd amendment stalwarts. Let the US fight their citizens with draftees from Marin County and the Upper West Side of Manhattan and see what happens.

LOL!

You are funny if you believe this.

Not the part about the military being divided if they were ever to fight against their own citizens, but with your use of stereotypes.

Jeemie,

Do you really think you could have a draft now given the way kids are raised, especially in areas like Marin County? Getting trophies for being shitty in everything?

What are they going to do? Throw their hackysack at you and want a medal and disability retirement for losing?

It's a fact, not a stereotype, that the military is disproportionately represented by flyover country. And that people who know guns are from the same. Well known fact that military snipers come from Kentucky and W.Va. and the like, kids who have been shooting squirrels since 7.

Point is those who would take away 200 m guns from citizens don't have the guts or the skills to do it.

BTW Aurora Colo has gun control, so it didn't work anyway.

Basically there's nothing you can do to stop this. After the fact you could waste the guy quickly after a speedy trial but the people who want gun control won't let you do that. Why is Khalid Sheik Muhammed still alive?

Of course we mourn for the victims that perished as well as the injured. Deepest condolences. Unfortunately, there are obviously way more victims effected as a result. This film is forever marred by this tragic event now. As are all who contributed to the film and it's production. The great city of Pittsburgh. The Steelers ahtletes and the many thousands of Pittsburgh locals that took part in the film as extras. Truly very sad.

I'm talking proportionally and per capita but you are correct on overall numbers.

But the elites in the blue states do not enlist, they leave the dirty work for minorities while they go study French deconstructionist theory on Pell grants and college exemptions.

Can't remember where I saw it so I can't provide a link but last I looked the ethnic group with the highest population in the United States Armed Forces is of the Hispanic/Latino ethnicity.
