...what say you to the revelations over the weekend that Spanier, Curley and Schultz had a plan in place to report Sandusky to the proper authorities in 2001...and then scrapped them the next day after consulting with one Coach Joseph Vincent Paterno?

I'm sorry if this feels like re-opening old wounds...but even the most ardent supporter has to admit that this looks bad for the late coach (even though there is still the ability to fall into a "we'll never know" defense since Paterno never used e-mail, and we don't know exactly what he said during that consultation).

I agree that NCAA may be the wrong avenue but its too late for that I think. Emmett has spoken and seems to have made up his mind.
As for Jeemies point -- certainly looks like Curley et al are going to be convicted.
We will never know the extent of any involvement from the coach unless Curley, Spanier or Schulz decide to try and blame him to wiggle off the hook. I dont suspect this is going to happen. I think that Curley and company will cop a plea and end this -- PSU does not want them in court making excuses.

Time for these men to step down and tkae their lumps for a bad decision.
PSU will pay and close the civil suits
perhaps with these positive steps NCAA will decide sufficient damage has occurred and proper steps taken and allow the players to keep on unharmed.
But I doubt it ... looks bleak

I don't know how you go on here and party and tailgate as if nothing happened..this is like continuing the frat party after you know someone was raped in the closet...I guess enough beer will make it work for some people

absolutely agree about a piece of the puzzle
however, there are two sides to the puzzle ;) and it seems to be getting progressivley worse for the administrators as investigations develp and i wouldnt be shocked to see a plea and serious steps by PSU soon to shut this show down before it gets worse.

There is no way they want Spanier, Curley and Schulz in court making excuses whether they are good ones or not -- and at this point in time they look like they will be bad ones

Think of it this way: If Sandusky was a recently retired surgeon, Paterno was the chief of surgery and Curley was the dean of Penn State's College of Medicine, would you be asking the Liaison Committee on Medical Education to make it impossible for Penn State to continue training physicians 11 years after the fact? Of course you wouldn't.

what if the nature of the violation was the proven routine rape of under-age visitors of their patients by that retired individual where that rape was reported to the administrators and the Medical Board of the hospital on several occassions? Perhaps their ability to attend to patients wold be called into questions

NCAA seems to believe they lack insituational control

We've talked about the limitations of the NCAAs powers here, and I happen to find that argument compelling.

Yet I can't see having a season as if nothing happened as the program clearly benefitted from the coverup.

Does the Big Ten have any power beyond that of the NCAA?
