I agree with Swiss on his general point, football obsession is pretty over the top in the SEC and no one would be surprised if something sick or criminal were covered up to benefit the program.
However, you got to give Arkansas credit, they didn't hesitate to throw Petrino out on his ass.

Well gentlemen the new spokesman for the NCAA Nick Saban has floated your idea. Raise the prices and let the fans pick up part of the bill.

I think he's philosophically on the right track, Gonz. I'd make it much more substantial than just an additional tax. Sort of like how all proceeds from Hershey bars accrue to the Milton Hershey School ('least they used to), all revenues from football would be accrue toward reparations to victims and funding of non-profit organizations that treat and prevent child sexual abuse. Now....they may need to adjust a bit for the subsidizing of other PSU sports by football revenue....but the bean-counters and lawyers can figure that out. Saban's focus on positive outcomes is along the lines of my thoughts on the matter though. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/f ... d=si_ncaafOne reaction to Saban's comments: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/w ... ref=sircrc

It may work
You know my feelings on this by now -- so I wont repeat them, but add a new thought -- I think the idea of taking fans money and re-directing it in part to appease others for the misdeeds of PSU is preposterous. I think it also further accentuates the ridiculous idea that college football is important or part of some faux healing process. As Hesske discussed though this type of horseshit is right up the NCAAs alley and they may agree to it.

You should work in Boston, Gonz....where all is said to revolve around " baseball, politics and revenge." Just kidding, but seriously, why not try to extract just a bit of chicken salad from a heap of chicken shit. What's so preposterous about that. I think the problem is in looking at it as appeasement rather than in trying to move this whole mess somehow in a positive direction rather than simply execute (figuratively) not only the miscreants but everyone who lived in their neighborhood.

Baby boom solution for everything is throwing money at it.
Thing is containing this problem has nothing to do with money, just the courage to do the right thing.
It smacks of the papal indulgences that led to the Protestant reformation..a payoff for sins.

Fact is, organizations that address child sexual abuse are closing right and left due to funding shortfalls. Rather than just kill the football program, why not use it to generate something that can actually help with the problem? http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/news/967 ... 444B58D682

Yes but that kind of thinking leads you to a system where the wealthy pay for their crimes and the poor go to jail. Like Europe in the Middle Ages.
Let's just say hypothetically, that the Aurora murderer was a billionaire and a brilliant businessman. You could argue that it would do the victims more good if he were allowed to raise money for his victims than prison/death penalty, but this isn't justice.
The key to containing this is apprehending pedos and isolating them as long as you can. Counseling services after the fact is putting duct tape on a burning building.

Trust me on that one. Here's the thing, Deebo, if you don't do both, then not doing (b) counseling turns into more of (a) pedophiles. See "sexually reactive behavior." And...in this case, hopefully the wealthy (Spanier, Schultz, Curley) are going to jail, and Paterno's dead.
