Only the truly naive ever believed he was that oblivious anyway. There will be much more to come with these investigations.

I'll echo the above sentiments: anyone who believes Paterno wasn't involved in the coverup is fooling themselves.
When he died I was willing to let it go, but the guy helped cover for a monster who raped young boys.
He was one of the greatest coaches of all time in any sport at any level. By all accounts he was a great man in other aspects of life. But this was more than some lapse of judgment and it will rightfully tarnish his legacy.
If you believe otherwise, your hero worship has gone over the deep end.

very eloquently put ltw, i believe paterno and the rest of them are as big of monsters as sandusky for not turning him in, the only thing paterno cared about was his legacy and he lucked out and died before he and the rest of the crew would have to spend any jail time
i don't understand how anyone can stand up for a guy like paterno or the other turds that helped him cover up the scandal
he woud never be the most winning coach of all time either had he not coached longer and played the weakest schedules every season to begin with, paterno was a hack, maybe he actually had some chops as a coach 15 yrs ago but the game passed him on a long time ago
i hope the rest of the people involved in this case end up in jail with sandusky, this whole case makes me sick to my stomach

Paterno's grand jury testimony: http://sportsbybrooks.com/transcript-joe-paterno-grand-jury-testimony-29933Quote: Q: Without getting into any graphic detail, what did Mr. McQueary tell you he had seen and where? Mr. Paterno: Well, he had seen a person, an older — not an older, but a mature person who was fondling, whatever you might call it — I’m not sure what the term would be — a young boy. Q: Did he identify who that older person was? Mr. Paterno: Yes, a man by the name of Jerry Sandusky who had been one of our coaches, was not at the time. Q: You’re saying that at the time this incident was reported to you, Sandusky was no longer a coach? Mr. Paterno: No, he had retired voluntarily. I’m not sure exactly the year, but I think it was either ‘98 or ‘99. Q: I think you used the term fondling. Is that the term that you used? Mr. Paterno: Well, I don’t know what you would call it. Obviously, he was doing something with the youngster. It was a sexual nature. I’m not sure exactly what it was. . .
This was in 2002/2003, before several of the other subsequent sexual assaults by Sandusky! And Sandusky was still allowed to continue to use the Penn State facilities, including the showers, after this scene and trade on his connections with Paterno and Penn State Football in order to recruit more minors in order to sexually assault.

i hope the rest of the people involved in this case end up in jail with sandusky, this whole case makes me sick to my stomach let's assume that the emails being quoted, which CNN hasn't actually seen, right, are accurate. So now,we're going to ascribe motive. you're going to postulate, DJ,that assuming paterno fucked up,he did it to protect his legacy? you don't think it could have been a woefully misguided attempt to protect the university,or an even more misguided attempt to protect the monster Sandusky/ Further, paterno wouldn't be going to jail, as you claim. As much as he seems to have fucked up, it was still schultz and curley's legal responsibility to notify child-protection and/or law enforcement Further,please...now you're going to denigrate paterno's coaching cred???

not sure how anything that was taken to the federal authorities 3 times can be called a cover up

Look at the lengths some people go to in order to preserve Joe's sainted image.
People with that mentality are the ones who give dictators their power.
Pathetic.

I wonder how many of them knew JS lived right behind an elementary school.
Yet the cover up worked because the statue of limitations has passed.
