RIP Goober. I grew up with the Andy Griffith Show (in syndication by that time, though). Gomer's still running the filling station in Mayberry. Hopefully Gomer (Jim Nabors) will not follow him soon as he is scheduled for heart surgery later on this month: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/jim-nabors ... 00496.html

Love that show, Yinz. It wasn't quite the same after Don Knotts left, not as funny I'd say. But I still watched it because it felt good to do so. These were warm characters who took us to a place far away from the tumult of the day.

RIP Goober.

The 60's and 70's were the golden age for sitcoms, Andy Griffith Show being one of the best. Sure they were tamer in the 60's - more zany, screwball comedy than the more thinking sit-coms of the 70's. You got in right MeanJoe, the characters on those shows were almost like family. They were good characters. Loved Don Knotts - from Morgantown, West-by-God Virginia! I can still see Barney reaching into his shirt pocket for his lone bullet.
