The Band and the Velvet Underground are two groups everyone praises that no one ever listens to.

At least the Band had the Weight which some people recognize...

I agree - sort of a lame name and awkward to use in a sentence (like my OP). Up On Cripple Creek is fairly well known. And The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is a lesser known gem sung by Helm.

Marc Cohn has a song called Listening to Levon, about making out with a chick in the car until a Levon song comes on the radio when he completely loses interest in the girl.

That's a lost era in music. I saw Dylan in 2004 and his voice was completely gone, not that it ever was any good.

If you liked the Last Waltz, you have to see the Last Polka about the Schmenge brothers that is just hilarious.

Levon contributed much more than just "the band." his place in Woodstock is legendary and provided a great place for musicians to let it all out...check out the black crowes 'Before the frost...until the freeze,' it was recorded up there.
