The 2009-10 Campaign is Set

We've known the opponents for months and the opposing conferences for years, but now the details are filled in as the defending Super Bowl Champions prepare to take the field again.  Today, the NFL, formally released the 2009-10 schedule.

The Steelers won Super Bowl XLIII after going through the "toughest schedule" in the NFL and now face one of the easiest schedules at # 29.  For the record, strength of schedule at this point is meaningless but keeps sports writer's busy.  I've included the opponent's strength of schedule for entertainment purposes for the astute fan and for discussion by those that think it is worth discussing.

I like this schedule due to the amount of 1:00 PM games (10).

  • Five Prime-Time Games including one Monday Night Football game and a NFL Network game.
  • The bye week will occur in Week 8.  The last time the Steelers had a bye that late was in 1999.
  • Using the 2008-09 results, the Steelers play six teams with losing records (Browns and Bengals twice).
  • Using the 2008-09 results, the Steelers play two teams that finished at .500 (Chargers and Broncos).
  • Using the 2008-09 results, the Steelers play five teams that finished with winning records (Ravens twice).
  • Using the 2008-09 results, the Steelers play five playoff teams (Vikings, Titans, Ravens, Dolphins and Chargers).
  • The Steelers do not have to play a team coming off a bye this season.
